Meet Mary.

Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Mary now lives and works in New Orleans. Her years living along the Gulf Coast are evident in her lyrical style, bold palette and coastal forms. After graduating from the University of Georgia, she went on to study painting at the New York Academy of Art, where she earned her MFA.

Working on both canvas and paper, Mary captures the tension between intentional marks and chaos. Each work starts loose and intuitively, with a story eventually making it’s way to the surface after working and reworking. The initial maze of color and form quickly reveal body language and a strong sense of place that is harmonious and lyrical. While painting (usually on the ground), she often turns the canvas or paper for a fresh perspective and a deeper exploration of composition.
