Shelby Monteverde is from Memphis, TN, where she continues to live and work. While she gained formal training at the University of Memphis, she also largely credits her creative abilities to her childhood and as an inheritance from artist family members. Her loose yet heavy brushstrokes transform everyday scenes - from bowls of fruit to a coffee maker sequestered to the corner of the countertop.

A dedicated student of the mundane, Shelby has an eye for detail that calls out beauty in everything, whether a traffic cone or crayon. Her close cropping on subjects feels so fresh, while her obvious mastery of materials and light calls on classic painting techniques.
